Cayman Islands guide for Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac & Little Cayman.

Public holidays & festivals

Public Holidays, also known as Bank Holidays, take in a mixture of British, American and Cayman Island celebrations.

Throughout the year, the Cayman Islands also enjoy a variety of festivals and events. Carnival time is known as "Batabano", a weekend-long celebration accompanied by street parades and live music. The fishing tournaments in April and June attracts anglers from around the World in search of "the big one". Pirates week in October is your chance to dress up, let your hair down and shout like a pirate (don't worry, it's quite normal).

Festivals:

Batabano

Held in April, just after Easter. Colorful weekend-long costume Carnival. Local bands playing island music, dance groups and school children fill the streets. You'll find it hard not to join in the fun!

Cayfest
Held in April offering exhibitions of Cayman history, cultural events and art.

International Fishing Tournament
Held in April. Competition to catch the big one! Over US$400,000 in prizes.

Million Dollar Month
Held in June. Competition to catch the Atlantic Blue Marlin. The current record is 584 pounds, which was caught in 1984.

Queen's Birthday & Cayman Islands Aviation Week
In honour of the Islands' British heritage, the birthday of the Queen of England is celebrated each June, filling the streets with a full military dress parade, 21-gun salute and an Open House and Garden Reception at the Government House. Aviation week always co-insides with the Queens Birthday celebrations, and the Islands enjoy a Bank Holiday weekend.

Taste of Cayman
Held in July offering the chance to sample many of the islands restaurants within the same night.

Pirates Week
Held in October. This 10 day long event offers the chance to see the landing of pirates to the island, various sporting competitions, district heritage days and street dances.
